Volunteers for Fundraising Dances
WORK:
Several positions are available for the setting up of the Dance Hall, as well as, several positions for
the cleaning/closing of the Dance Hall. Opportunities for the operation of the Dances are available
with some training and/or Smart Serve Certification.
REPORTS TO: Prevention Education Coordinator/ Gay Men’s Outreach Program Coordinator.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS:
- A clean 2-stage TB test result on file.
- A Police Records Check.
- Sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
- Sign a Volunteer Agreement
POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
Front Counter Worker – ‘Cashier/Greeter’
- HOURS:
- 8:00PM – 12:00AM
- DUTIES:
- Greet people at the door. Sell Admission Tickets and maintain a Sales Sheet to be submitted to the Coordinator at the end.
- Maintain a Display Table for Agency’s educational/promotional materials.
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Simple math - money counting and making change.
- Friendly and enjoy working with the public.
Cash bar Worker
- HOURS:
- 8PM – 1:30AM
- DUTIES:
- Sell Bar Tickets
- Sell Raffle Tickets for 50/50 prize.
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Simple math – money counting and making change.
- Friendly and enjoy working with the public
Bartender – *must have ‘Smart Serve’ Certification
- HOURS:
- 4PM – 2AM
- DUTIES:
- Stock and Un-stock Beer Cooler with Beer and Coolers
- Prepare Drinks
- Maintain a clean Bar and area
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Dependable and friendly
- Have Ontario ‘Smart Serve’ Certification
Cloak room Worker
- HOURS:
- 8PM – 2AM
- DUTIES:
- Check-in and check-out coats using numbered tickets
- Maintain a neat and clean cloak room
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Friendly and enjoy working with public
- Dependable and self motivated
Set-Up Worker
- HOURS:
- 3PM – 5PM
- DUTIES:
- Load and Un-load cases of Beer and boxes of Supplies from Office to Dance Hall.
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enjoy working with others
- Dependable
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Clean-up/Closing Worker
- HOURS:
- 12AM – 2AM
- DUTIES:
- Clean-up Dance Hall. Wash serving bowls and dishes. Re-pack supplies for transport back to Office.
- Empty all trash into Outside Trash Bin.
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enjoy working with others
- Dependable
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Drivers
- HOURS:
- First Shift = 3PM – 4:30PM
- Second Shift = 1AM – 2:30AM
- DUTIES:
- Driving your own vehicle loaded with Beer cases and boxes of supplies to the Dance Hall or from Dance Hall to Office (depending on shift)
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Own a vehicle and provide proof
- Clean driving record and valid Ontario G drivers license
- Proof of insurance with 1 million dollars liability coverage
- Have advised insurance company of your volunteer activity
- 21 years of age

Bingo Assistant
PURPOSE: To provide assistance at our afternoon (11:00 am to 3:00 pm) OR evening (5:00 pm to 10:00 pm) Fundraising Charity Bingos.
DESCRIPTION:
Charity Bingo Volunteers report to the Bingo Coordinator and work as a team. The Bingo Volunteers are responsible for:
- Selling bingo books
- Doing prize pay-outs
- Keeping the tables clean as well as cleaning up at the end of the Bingo Session.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Friendly and personable
- Service oriented
- Possess good mathematical skills.
LOCATION: The AIDS Committee of Durham Region’s Charity Bingos are at the Red Barn Bingo Hall at 172 Wayne Avenue in Oshawa. (Wayne Avenue is located one block south of Taunton Road and runs west from Simcoe Street).
Minimum Commitment:
- Six months: at least one Bingo session per month
OTHER Requirements:
- Current Police Check (annually)

In-kind Donations Coordinator:
PURPOSE:
The role of the In-Kind Donations Coordinator is to make friendly, positive contacts with individuals in the local business community in an effort to obtain prizes and food for the organization with a view to enhancing the enjoyment and success of fundraising events that are held throughout the year.
DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Coordinator of Volunteers, the In-Kind Donations Coordinator will:
- Contact businesses by telephone, mail or email to request suitable items and/or services. (Scripts and/or letters outlining requests will be provided.)
- Keep a listing of who has been contacted for prizes/donations.
- Send thank-you letters for gifts received. (Outlines provided along with letterhead)
- Possibly pick-up donations from time-to-time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Good command of the English language.
- Able to operate word processing software.
- Warm, friendly and positive mannerism.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Willing to see projects through to completion.
- Being well connected to members of the local business community would be considered an asset but is not essential.
HOURS OF WORK:
The In-Kind Donations Coordinator works on a project basis whenever convenient between the hours of 9:00 and 5:00 Monday – Friday. May require to work for about 2 hours every week.
COMMITMENT:
A minimum commitment of one project is required. The ability to work on two or more projects per year would be greatly appreciated. A project may last for about 3 to 4 months.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A recent Police Check.
- Sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
- Sign a Volunteer Agreement
- Attend a Volunteer Orientation.
- A 2-stage Tuberculosis test result on file.

Prevention Education/Harm Reduction Kits Assembler:
PURPOSE:
To facilitate adequate production of Safer Sex kits and Needle-Exchange kits for our Outreach Program.
REPORTS TO: Prevention Education Coordinator
DUTIES:
- Print and cut information folders for the Safer Sex kits
- Stuff condoms, lube and other information sheets in the package as directed.
- Organize Needle Exchange kits as directed.
- Practice personal safety and hygiene guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Reliable
- Hard-working
- Able to perform repetitive movements.
WORK SCHEDULE AND LOCATION:
Work hours will be between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm at our office located at 22 King St. West, Suite 401; Monday – Friday, as scheduled with Prevention Education Coordinator.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A clean 2-stage TB test results on file.
- A recent Police Check on file.
- Sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
- Sign a Volunteer Agreement.

Saturday from 7pm to 2:30 am; Masonic Hall, Oshawa

Controling and Preventing alcohol and drugs from being brought into the Dance Hall
