Health Promotion Services
To effectively provide a variety of health and support services, the AIDS Committee of Durham Region (ACDR) has a full-time Health Promotion
Co-ordinator on staff. We offer support services based on the following principals.
- Respect and support of your dignity, well-being, and independence
- Your right to express your concerns in an environment free of prejudice and discrimination
- Peace of mind in knowing that your confidentiality is ALWAYS protected
- Updates on improvements to treatment, and new treatment options
- Effective, competent and principled support network with community agencies
COUNSELLING SERVICES:
Free and confidential counseling and referral services for People living with HIV/AIDS
SUPPORT GROUPS:
Monthly support groups give People living with HIV/AIDS opportunities to learn coping strategies in a supportive setting
COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROGRAM:
Monthly community kitchen nights give HIV+ clients opportunities to share nutritious meals and learn & teach cooking skills in a supportive setting.
VOLUNTEER DRIVER PROGRAM:
Trained volunteers are available to drive clients to medical appointments
FINANCIALASSISTANCE:
A wellness fund is available to assist clients with urgent medical needs.
Our Living Wellnes Fund is supported by the
Ontario AIDS Network Positive Support Financial Assistance Program
FOOD BANK:
Open Tuesdays from 1:00pm-4:00pm as a resource for clients with nutritional and other basic needs
ADVOCACY SERVICES
Individual and systemic advocacy to ensure access to adequate care and services
PHADEVELOPMENT:
Skills-building and networking opportunities, such as workshops and conferences
INTER-AGENCY SUPPORT:
Support and education for our community partners on the issues & needs of our clients
